The Institute: Opportunity through strategic infrastructure investment

Who We Are:

The Strategic Infrastructure Performance Institute is a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit that focuses on long-term infrastructure thinking, particularly around (1) strategic projects, (2) technology innovation, and (3) financial innovation, and (4) community engagement. Clients include governments, foundations, firms, and investment promotion agencies. The overall focus is on the digitalization and electrification of infrastructure - driving good jobs, optimizing project benefits and increasing economic productivity.

Launched in October 2020, the Institute roared out of the box and has completed two signature projects

  • First, we designed a state infrastructure bank to help a western state recover from Covid by bringing new sources of funding to priority projects across the transport, energy, water, and broadband (schools, clinics, and businesses) spaces.

  • Second, we designed the financial model for a $1 billion smart highway in a Midwestern state, identifying seven different resources - based on data, land value capture, and electrification - to create a bankable revenue stream for this smart platform.

We are currently developing two new projects: the creation of an assessment mechanism to audit the value of city data resources, and how to best monetize those resources; and the creation of a Benefit's Index to drive strategic project prioritization - especially projects related to health (clean water) and mobility.

The Institute signed a Declaration of Intent with the Republic of Korea's leading university, Seoul National Univerity (SNU), during the inaugural US-Korea Strategic Infrastructure Summit. The focus is to mobilize infrastructure investment in support of democracies globally. Three founding members of the U.S./Korea Digital Infrastructure Initiative - Blockchains, Big Sun Holdings Group, Smart Radar System, and the State of West Virginia were also signatories.

“The Institute combines the best minds in infrastructure to create blueprints governments, institutions and the private sector can follow to establish the strategic objectives, funding framework, and staffing to efficiently bring projects to life. Ultimately, these efforts will drive sustainable economic, health, environmental, and other broad community benefits. This is especially crucial now, as the world recovers from the pandemic, addresses global threats, and seeks to advance new technologies and new investment formulas.”
